One wall of texture, everything else quiet

A single bathroom, tiled in a pale stone-effect porcelain that runs from the floor up the walls in one tone. Keeping the field tile flat and quiet is what lets a small room read as a calm one: the interest goes in a single place rather than spread thinly across every surface.

That one place is a striped relief tile, laid horizontally across the bath wall and carried down onto the bath panel so the two read as one plane instead of a wall sitting on a box. Running the stripe horizontally also pulls the eye across the short dimension of the room, which is the cheapest way there is to make a narrow bathroom feel wider.

The bath takes a rainfall head and a handset on a thermostatic valve behind a hinged glass screen. A wall-hung vanity in a warm taupe gloss carries a wide basin and keeps the floor clear underneath, and a large mirror lit from above by a slim LED bar throws that light back across the tiling.
