One lit line around a small room

A compact bathroom, and a tight one: the ceiling slopes over the shower and there is no spare wall anywhere. Rooms this size are usually finished in one pale tile from floor to ceiling on the theory that it makes them feel bigger. This one does the opposite and is the better for it.

The walls are split. Stone-effect porcelain in a warm beige runs up to waist height, and above it sits a mottled green glazed square tile, each piece slightly different from the next so the wall shifts as the light moves across it. The join between the two is a ledge, and under that ledge runs a concealed LED strip. That single lit line does most of the work in the room: it draws the eye horizontally, sets the green glowing from below, and means the room can be lit softly at night without the ceiling light on.

The same trick is repeated low down. LED runs under the vanity and under the wall-hung WC, so both appear to float and the floor reads as continuous underneath them. A countertop basin sits on a fluted unit with a marble-effect top, picking the fluting up from nothing else in the room and giving the one piece of furniture some weight.

The rest is kept deliberately plain so the tiling carries the room: a corner shower behind clear glass with a rainfall head and a handset, a recessed niche tiled in, a bath with a marble-effect panel, and a flat ladder radiator in white rather than chrome so it disappears against the wall.
